These products gained pretty high rating of 8 by Carrie Lauth of Dallas, GA. See what she liked about them.

Description: Seventh Generation cleaning and paper products are among my favorite non-toxic cleaning products. Reasonably priced and effective, they’re a great introduction to safer cleaning alternatives.

Review: The free and clear Glass and Surface Cleaner is one of my favorites for windows and mirrors. It cleans well and has no added fragrance. It’s solvent and VOC free and doesn’t burn your nose or stink up the room.

I feel totally comfortable letting my children clean with Seventh Generation products. In fact my 8 year old son, who is in charge of bathroom maintenance, likes the toilet cleaner. One tiny caveat: the triggers on the spray bottles leak sometimes. I prefer to transfer them to the reusable heavy duty spray bottles I have.

Seventh Generation Toilet Cleaner

Many toilet bowl cleaners are made with harmful chemicals that can cause injury to the skin and mucus membranes. Not so with Seventh Generation’s Toilet Bowl Cleaner. I keep this product in my son’s bathroom. I feel totally comfortable letting him use it for bathroom cleaning duty. It’s also safe for septic systems.

The bottle has a curved top which allows you to get the product right under the rim where it needs to go. It has a mint fragrance which is somewhat unusual. I usually associate mint with something to eat! But it’s pleasant and not at all overwhelming.

Thanks for the review Carrie. This sounds like a great product. It can be purchased from Amazon.com I’m always looking for safe products to use around my children.

Review: Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products caught my eye at the health food store. The bottles are just too cute! I bought an All Purpose Cleaner. It’s a concentrated non-toxic cleaner that comes in a 32 ounce bottle. You can mix it in different strengths for various cleaning tasks. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products are aromatherapeutic. Essential oils have germ killing properties, and they smell nice. I bought the Geranium scent. When I clean, my house smells like Grandma!

I use Clean Day All Purpose Cleaner for general all purpose cleaning, for instance on countertops, sinks, and for floors. It works well, and is very economical. I put about 1/4 cup into a 32 oz. spray bottle and mix with water.

Price: $11.95

Overview:

This is an in-depth, step by step guide to help you set up and succeed at budgeting. Its goal, as pointed out early on, is this: “. . . we focus in on how to empower families to set up better, more realistic budgets, stick to them and celebrate their successes (and learn from their failures!)” I must say they succeeded in accomplishing their goal.

The misconception of what a budget is, is clearly defined. Practical applications and suggestions are provided in not only discussing the need, benefits and advantage of a budget but also the processes and techniques for building your family budget. There is no fluff in this eBook. Every page provides you with information to help you reach your goal of creating a budget you can stick to. Everything is written in plain English or explained in a manner everyone can understand.

Best Part:

I think the best part of this eBook is how it’s laid out. It covers all the bases: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. Simply put, it’s a step by step, hands-on, practical guide to get you where you want your family budget to be. (Side note: It’s a great price for so much information.)

Cons:

It may seem to be a bit lengthy as it isn’t a 10 to 12 page eBook it’s actually over 50 pgs. But no one says you have to read it all in one sitting. I found out that once you get started reading the information provided you’ll want to continue reading and begin right there and then to work on your budget plans. So, I wouldn’t exactly call it a Con unless you were expecting less information.

My daughter can watch the BOCA BETH DVD over and over.

Presented by Beth Butler/Creator of the BOCA BETH Program

You realize the benefits of having a second language but do not know where to turn or how to begin the process for your little one? You recognize the fact that your child will need to speak more than just one language in order to travel successfully through this global society of ours? Read through the following second language learning tips provided by a bilingual mom of three, educator of thousands and leading expert on the subject.

Start the second language learning early! Experts agree the earlier, the better. Play language music CDs during the pregnancy. Talk to your baby from the moment of birth in two or more languages if possible. If you and your family only speak one language, begin introducing a new language with bilingual music CDs and DVDs when appropriate.

Repetition is the key for all your child’s learning. Repeat! Repeat! Repeat!

From birth through age 10, many experts advise using the native and the new language together in a side-by-side presentation (referred to as a bilingual format). After the age of ten to twelve, total immersion is a good option. Early in life, the bilingual approach is best for better retention and higher self esteem for the child.

Find a bilingual language learning program/product for your young child that incorporates these following components: visual cues, music fun, beginning reading and verbal exchange.

Help your child enjoy the new language daily. How much is enough you ask? The following are some simple guidelines by age:

Infants should receive 10 minutes of bilingual music fun each day.

Toddlers should enjoy 20 minutes every day of bilingual board books, music and/or games. Preschoolers easily learn with 30 minutes of fun bilingual DVDs, games and music each day.

Elementary school children should be exposed to 45 minutes of music, movement and creative bilingual learning tools daily.

Make learning the new language fun! Do not ever force it. Avoid saying comments similar to: If you do not speak to me in xyz language I will not answer you. This approach only causes tension and rebellious actions.

Gently guide your child into the new language journey. Show a high level of confidence. Smiling usually works best!

If your home language is Spanish, do not agree to an immersion program of English only for your child under the age of 10. The sink or swim mentality does not work for little children. Young children need the comfort of their native language and connection to their heritage to maintain a high level of self-confidence and desire to continue speaking in their native language while learning a most difficult language at the same time.

If your Spanish-speaking child is learning English, do not listen to school staff members who suggest you give up speaking your native language at home. The myth that your children will be language delayed or have a language disorder is just that – a myth. In fact, bilingual children will ultimately speak both languages better, read sooner and score higher on math and verbal sections of standardized tests (not to mention experience better opportunities later in life).

Show your child that you respect other cultures and value the ability to speak other languages by attending multi-cultural events revolving around dance, music, food and the arts of other cultures and people.

Be patient! Have fun! Even if your child may not be verbalizing the new language right away, remember that repetition is the key to learning. Your child’s brain is processing the new language and is wiring it for future use. Your child is getting a strong foundation for later language learning.

I was sitting holding my 6 year old in my arms rocking him slowing the other day and a book that I have came to mind. I haven’t pulled it off my shelf in awhile and read it, not because it isn’t a great book but I can’t seem to get through it without tears filling my eyes.

The story of a parent’s love, time passage and a new tradition. The book is entitled, LOVE YOU FOREVER written by Robert Munsch and is illustrated by Sheila McGraw. I won’t give the story away but if you are a mom this is a must read, especially if you have a son although it applies to all parents.

Pick it up if you can. It can be found here for under $5 or in your local library but I can almost guarantee that if you read it once you’ll want to buy and keep your own copy. This would be a fantastic gift for any and all moms.

Ok, I bought the VTech Learning System for my kids when it first came out and well needless to say it died. The power just stopped working. We bought an adapter and it worked fine for a short time. We went out and bought another game I tried the adapter and the system didn’t work right out of the box. So I took it back and exchanged it hoping the third times a charm. It worked for a few months stopped working after the 90 day warranty you get.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a great tool for learning. My kids really enjoyed it and we bought a lot of the game cartridges. It’s just hard to justify spending so much on a product and it’s accessories for it not to work for long.

After having all those games sitting there my little 4 year old says she want to play the “orange game” as she calls it. So, after much hesitation and months of not having one, I gave in.

I went to Wal-Mart (cause I know the return policy) and found that there is a new VTech Learning System. One of the things that is different is that the controller also has a small screen on it with a stylus, a microphone on the base of the game and some new features, the batteries it uses are no longer “C”s they are “AA”s now which I was surprised at. But sometimes it does still seem a bit on the quirky side not wanting to power on.

I sure hope this last awhile. These are not inexpensive items. I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore game cartridges for a while though. I’ll tell you one thing, if this one goes that it! the game cartridges will go on ebay. I’m not doing this anymore.
UPDATE: Ok the last one just died. The cartridges will go on eBay. If you’re interested in some discounted cartridges I’ll post on the blog when I get them listed along with a few other VTech items.

Are you looking to wear your baby? A baby sling is a perfect way to keep your baby close to you. Stacie rates Monkey Bums Baby Sling a 9.

Product Name: Monkey Bums Baby Sling
Last name: Mahoe, Stacie
State: HI
City: Kapolei
Rating: 9
Where to buy: www.MonkeyBums.com

Description: Monkeybums offers a baby sling for carrying your infant or toddler. It’s made of fabric and is very comfortable and easy to use. There are many different cool fabric designs and colors to choose from.

Review: Unlike other infant carriers that may hurt your shoulders, the Monkeybums baby sling makes it easy to carry or wear your baby. I found the sling to help ease the physical strain of carrying an infant for an extended period of time. Even as beginning baby wearer, the sling was easy for me to use. I loved the fact that you could switch baby from an upright position to a laying down position without waking baby up. It’s also rather easy to get baby in and out of and is simple to adjust. The adjustment may not be quite as easy as pulling on straps, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not that tough.

Best of all, my son loved to be in the sling. It always calms him down and helps him relax.

Another thing I liked was the extra fabric (tail) – it’s long enough to use as a cover for nursing or to wrap baby up a bit more for cooler weather. I use it to block the sun from my son’s head if it’s sunny outside.

These fabric slings are also washable just in case you have a spill or other kind of accident.

Criticism: The only thing I don’t like about the sling is that after a wash, I couldn’t get it back to being as nicely folded as when I first got it. So what happened after the first wash was that when I put the fabric back through the rings it was a little tangled which made adjusting it after baby was in more complicated. So I just had to take the time to fold it back up like it was when it first arrived – then I had an easier time adjusting the size.

Have you tried this baby sling? What do you think of it?
