Avoid work at home scams but how?

Easy! Be alert to some key points to watch out for.  Don’t get impatient and jump at an opportunity without doing your research on the company first.  I say this from experience because we all fall for it at our weakest point no matter how smart we are.  As difficult as it may be, be patient.  Take this information to heart and find out all you need to before you apply.

Red Flags to alert you to an online job scam!  Make this your motto:  Never Pay for a Job.  Legitimate companies WILL NOT charge you a fee to work for them.

• Check the BBB for complaints
• Check scambusters.org
• Get contact information – address, phone number, etc. (If they won’t provide it then I would think they are hiding something)
• Newly established website addresses.
• Personal email addresses instead of company email address – aol.com or yahoo.com instead of (name of company).com
• Network – talk to others looking for wah jobs, check out wham bulletin boards.
• Question those ads that say no experience necessary.
• Check sites lke Yaho Yellow Pages and others to see if the company exists or can be found in their listings.
• Never send copies of personal information to an address or tax number you can’t verify.
• Go with your gut feeling, if something seems fishy or odd to you take that as a red flag.
• Be very cautious when a company wants you to set up accounts or transfer funds.  It could end up getting you into a lot of legal troubles (it’s not worth it).
• If a job seems to good to be ture, it probably is.
• Job offers that promise you’ll make lots of money for very little work or very quickly – RED FLAG! Even an away from home job wouldn’t offer this!
• Job offers that ask for a fee other than perhaps a fee for a background check.

Do Your Research

This is where your work comes in. If you really want to make legitimate money online then you need to make sure you are looking at reliable sources for that income, and doing your research to make sure the company is legitimate. Too many times we get anxious and jump at the first opportunity we see come along without really examining it to its fullest. Then we find out later, it was a scam. Just a little too late.

If you are serious about finding work at home then seek out reliable sources, ezines, free newsletters, wahm message boards, etc. I highly recommend Telework Recruiting, yes, it is a site you pay for but it’s a one time fee for a lifetime membership. I personally have found several work at home jobs there. The ladies there do an excellent job of checking the companies out. JustOnlineJobs is a free but very good resource available also. There you will find a blog and a forum so you too can become a part of the wahm community and get some great advice from some very experience and knowledgeable mompreneurs.

Paid Online Surveys

There are other ways too to make legitimate money online. Survey companies – I know what you’re thinking “Those are scams; I won’t make any money doing that”. I beg to differ, I don’t make a lot of money with survey companies but I do make some. And the extra cash comes in handy for little extras that I may want either for myself or my kids, or even for just tucking away in a piggy bank for a rainy day or summer vacation spending cash. I will recommend one that I have made well over a hundred dollars with, mind you it takes time to build up money in the survey accounts so don’t expect to use it as a full time income or even part time for that matter, it’s NFO My Survey. But if you have some spare time and just want something to do online that will bring in some cash you can give it a try.

Start Your Own Business

Have you ever thought about being your own boss? You might be surprised to know just how many moms own their own businesses (many of whom work out of their own homes).
