Mom’s Night Out

Last week I had a Mom’s Night Out in celebration of the release of my first book Domestically Challenged - A Working Moms Survival Guide to Becoming a Stay at Home Mom. The party was great, but I was shocked at how little the moms that attended got out. I was even more shocked at how many of my mom friends didn’t get to go because of sick kids and such.

Prayer For All Soldiers

Pray For The Soldiers

I was asked the other day about why I support the military. So, I would like to share with others why I support the military. Soldiers today are not drafted - they freely make the choice to enlist in the military. Other soldiers in earlier wars were drafted and did not have a choice. But, in a way soldiers are drafted today - because there are not enough jobs to provide quality employment in small towns. Others can only pursue college by enlisting. So, because of the lack of better options - people enlist in the service.
Soldiers who served in the draft - should encourage and support the soldiers of today. Soldiers of today are out there fighting for freedom and obeying orders. They bleed and die from wounds - just as soldiers did in wars from the draft. It is my understanding that soldiers and families that served in the time of the draft - do not receive as much in benefits or retirement. This should be taken up with government officials and maybe the system would be changed. But, I do not believe it should be taken out on the soldiers today. It is my viewpoint that before you complain - make sure you have a solution that works!
The soldiers need our prayers and encouragement. I pray for and send care packages to the soldiers because: 1) It gives me a chance to share the good news of Jesus and to spread the love of Jesus 2) Because I appreciate the soldiers fighting the battles for freedom 3) Because, they have willingly enlisted - there will not be a need for a draft. We must remember these soldiers have a mother, father, sister, brother, wife and children - they are special to someone. It does not become personal to a person - until the soldier who is lost in battle belongs to your family.
As you pray today - ask the Lord to bless the soldiers who served under the draft and to bless, protect and guide the soldiers who enlisted voluntarily. No parent wants to think of their child being drafted into the military and so everyone should be thankful volunteers enlist in the military. Pray for the families who have people serving in the military.
As a soldier basically all your rights are surrendered. You belong to the military. The military has a code of ethics and if these are not followed - then consequences follow. So, it is with the Lord’s army - when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and Jesus comes into your heart we become part of the Lord’s army. God has set down a certain code of conduct and we must follow it. If you do not follow Jesus - you will have an eternal home in the lake of fire (Hell). Some people will accept Jesus and live their whole life for him and others may only come to him a few seconds before eternity. To some it seems unfair that a person who asks for forgiveness a few seconds before death will receive a home in heaven - just as the one who served Jesus all of their life. The Lord does not draft people into the Lord’s army - they join by choice. Are you part of the Lord’s army?
I would like everyone to keep all soldiers from all wars and their families in your prayers. I want to say thank you to all soldiers of all wars - because of your bravery America is still free today. People who have not served in the military ( just as myself) owe a debt to those who served, bled and died that cannot be repaid. To these I want to say thank-you ,may God bless and guide your steps. You are in my prayers!

New Beginnings

New Beginnings

What do you think of when you think of a new beginning? Your first job, getting married the birth of a child? Those are the most common but there are some we may not think of.

New beginnings too many people mean moving into a new house, for kids it’s starting a new school, for adults maybe starting a new job. All of these options are ones lived each day in the military. As with the seasons, these new beginnings come at certain times.

It is traditional for most military families to move at certain times of the year. The plans start early in the year. Spring cleaning takes on a whole new meaning when you know you’re house will be packed up in less than 6 weeks. As June approaches, the kids are getting out of school, vacations are being planned and moving vans dot the streets. It’s moving season, the beginning of a long summer of trucks, good-bye picnics, road trips and wondering what the next place will be like.

Time once again for a new beginning. It’s time to unpack, set up a new house, and visit the new schools and the new job. Get to know the neighbors and find things to do in the area. It’s the beginning of a new adventure.

As summer fades into fall, the beginnings start again. It is the second phase of the year, the beginning of cleaning, for those moving in November and December. Soon the moving trucks will dot the new street and good-byes will be said to long time friends and some you’ve just met. They are off to their new beginning.

It’s a cycle that does not end. If it sounds a little chaotic, it is. If it sounds a little lonely, it very much is. But it is also an adventure; each move is a new beginning. A chance to start again, meet new people, see new things and experience a part of life you may not have had the chance to see before.

New beginnings are not always obvious; sometimes we have to look for them.

A Patriotic Necklace

A Patriotic Necklace

Memorial Day will soon be here, and what better way to show your patriotism than a star necklace with a penny in the middle.

Supplies

Red, White, and Blue construction paper

Penny

Glue

Scissors

Hole punch

Yarn

Directions

Start by cutting out three stars. Making sure to make one big, then the next smaller, and the last one even smaller so they can stack on top of each other while still displaying the patriotic colors. Using your glue, secure the stars together. Allow a little time to dry. After your star is completely dry, glue your penny, Lincoln head up in the middle of your stars. Using your hole punch, make a hole at the top of one point, making sure not to make it so close to the edge that the stars rip or tear. String your yarn or ribbon through the hole and tie at the end.

There you have it, a fun, creative way to display our flags colors and show our patriotism.

Once Upon A Time

“Are you a princess, Momma?” That’s what my youngest asked me the other day because I was wearing a skirt I bought to celebrate my weight-loss. He’s now my favorite child.

He’s also pretty bright. Surely he must recognize the pattern of the skirt is one that dates back to medieval times. Maybe I really am a princess. Skirt or not, I’ve been a princess once before in the eyes of my other son when he was a toddler.

This celebration of the “middle ages” can be a real ego boost to a parent. It’s a time when a girl worships her father, the hero, and a boy places his mother on a pedestal so high…the thin air can go straight to her head.

The Day of Judgement

Judgment Day

The final battle has occurred and Jesus has returned. The time has come for judgment. The Lord calls a name and the person steps forward. Jane B. the name blares across eternity. The book of deeds is opened and the following message is read: “Saved at the age of twelve, but turned to the world and became involved in sexual sin, continued attending church regularly while continuing in sexual sin.” The Lord asked: “Do you have anything to say?” Jane replied: “I have a right to go to heaven-I was saved and attended services-I have grace.” The Lord turned to Jesus and asked: “Do you know her?” Jesus replied: “I knew her once-but her deliberate sin has separated her from me-so I do not know her.” The Lord announces: “Doomed for eternity in Hell” and she is thrown into the lake of fire.
The next name announced is Pastor W. Pastor W. steps forward. He is very confident after all-he is a pastor with a worldwide ministry. The book of deeds is opened. The following blares across eternity: Saved at eighteen, preached the gospel-but did not warn people they must repent and turn away from their sin. In order not to offend anyone-they were not told that their body is the temple of God and must be kept pure. He turned his head and did not confront sin. The Lord asked: “Do you have anything to say?” Pastor W. replied: “Yes, I have preached the gospel for over twenty years and millions have accepted Jesus. Grace will cover the fact I chose to pray for people instead of warning them to turn away from sin. I would not have been able to have the multitudes come to Jesus if I had preached repentance and turning away from sin.” The Lord turned to Jesus and asked: “Do you know him?” Jesus replied: “I knew him once – then he chose not to preach the gospel with repentance. He failed to warn the people and many souls have been lost. So, I do not know him-Judge him!” The voice of the Lord became strong and loud-Because you knew the truth-but neglected to preach repentance you will be accountable for every soul lost. Before you are thrown into the lake of fire-you will watch as those who trusted you are judged and sent to their home for eternity. Pastor W. was horrified as he saw the first of the millions that he led astray came to the place of judgment.
The first to appear was Timothy K. He was twenty one and looked like a normal teenage boy. He wore faded blue jeans and a western shirt. His eyes were blue and his hair was blond. On the outside he looked innocent-but it was the inside of the heart that mattered. The Lord called: “Timothy K.” and he walked forward. “Wow” Timothy said. The book of deeds was opened and the following was read: “Pornography, Satan worship, and sexual immorality.” Timothy’s face turned red and he swallowed hard. The Lord asked: “Do you have anything to say?” Timothy answered: “Prove it!” The Lord nodded and all of a sudden the room was filled with video pictures of Timothy worshipping Satan and his other sins. Timothy screamed: “O.K., I did it-but Pastor W. preached that God would forgive me and grace covered sins.” The Lord turned to Jesus and asked: “Do you know him?” Jesus replied: “I never knew him-Depart from me.” So, he was thrown into the lake of fire for eternity.
The millions Pastor W. had led came one by one to face judgment and to be sent to the lake of fire for eternity. Finally Pastor W. is sent to the lake of fire. Welcome to the lake of fire and congratulations on sending so many souls to the lake of fire. Here torment is forever and the torment begins with what you feared most on earth. Part of torment will be to watch all the souls that you allowed to be sent here by not telling them the full gospel message. Pastor W. cringed as he felt the burning fire and pain as the torment started. His last thought before the pain and fire became unbearable was: “If only I had stayed faithful to God.”
Judgment continues and Pastor A is called to stand before the Lord. The book of deeds is opened and the following was read: “Saved at age of six, strayed during teenage years, repented and followed God’s call for his life. He was given a ministry, preached the truth and reached out to help others.” The Lord asked: “Do you have anything to say?” Pastor A replied: “Lord I tried to follow your will and spread the good news of Jesus.” The Lord turned to Jesus and asked: “Do you know him?” Jesus answered: “Yes, Lord I know him-he was a good and faithful servant.” The Lord told Pastor A to go to his eternal home in heaven. Well done good and faithful servant. Pastor A will experience eternal peace for eternity.
Of course, this is just an example of how it may be on judgment day. There will be a day of judgment and those who have not accepted Jesus and have not turned away from sin will be sent to eternal torment. There is no guarantee of a tomorrow- so why not pray and ask Jesus into your heart today and to forgive you of your sins.

Murphy’s Law

We’ve all heard of Murphy’s Law, we are well aware of the fact that whatever can go wrong at some point will and usually at the worst time. I have come to the conclusion that Military makes sure this old saying comes true.

Life is an adventure in the military, we would move often, was able to discover new places and cultures. Sometimes, though, the adventures were less welcome, though did make life an adventure.

My husband was in the Navy, many times being deployed for weeks or months at a time. There were also time when he was home with us for long periods of time. When he was home we were able to get many things done. I had help around the house, our girls were able to spend time with their dad and life was pretty calm…….

That always comes to a quick end when the ship leaves port again………. It was almost guaranteed that within hours of the ship leaving port whatever could wrong, would and with much fanfare. We had one such incident when our girls were ages, 7, 6, and 4. Brianna, who was 6 at the time was playing T-ball. Meghan (then 7) and Jordyn (then 4) played near the bleachers, as I watched their sister on the field. I had told them not to play on the bleachers, you know the usual warnings. Not 10 minutes later there was a cry, I knew the cry…….one of those cries that tells you that something is very wrong. I looked over and saw Meghan on the ground crying and holding her wrist. In trying to jump off the bleachers she tripped and fell, breaking her wrist. Now, i’m thinking, and working out the logistics as i find ice and try to comfort by ‘baby.’ The game was stopped so Brianna could leave, I got Jordyn in her car seat and drove to a friend’s house, who I really hoped was home. Really frustrating was that her house was the opposite direction of the Emergency Room. Meghan sat in the front seat holding ice and crying. Brianna and Jordyn, not sure what exactly was happening, sat quiet in the back.

I did finally get to the hospital, her wrist was broken. She broke both bones, straight across and was put in a cast up to her shoulder. Through the adventure my husband had no idea what was happening, he would find out when he came home a week later and Meghan opened the door proudly displaying her cast. I love kids………

Did I mention through this that Jordyn was also in a cast at the time, up to her shoulder, due to a problem with her elbow. The military is not only an adventure for the guys!

What Would Jesus Do? Are You Following The Foot Steps of Jesus?

What Would Jesus Do?

Have you ever lived your life asking yourself – “What Would Jesus Do?” Many will say this is impossible because Jesus was the Son of God and we are just humans. The bible teaches in Philippians 4:13 “I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” (NIV) So, I believe Christians should live life as Jesus would and base decisions on what Jesus would do.
How would the world be changed if people (who are Christians) made decisions this way? The world would have less crime-because if people who owned, TV stations, radio stations, and newspapers refused to run ads about sex, alcohol and other sinful activities-then they would be less accepted and put in their proper prospective as “sin”.
Everyday people have choices to make-Will you stand up and do what is right for the Lord or will you compromise? Someday eternity will arrive and an account will be given for what is done here on earth. Will you hear: “Well done good and faithful servant or depart from me-I never knew you?”
I can remember when the dress code was changed at the local school. This was a very confusing time because for six years-the school had a strict dress code and rules. Then, one day all the rules changed and everyone had the choice of dressing as they felt proper. So, why does society have so much trouble today-I believe it is because we do not have the moral and spiritual standards the Lord has planned for us. Instead everyone does what is right in their own eyes. As time marches on there will be more pressure to accept things that society accepts as normal-but are not pleasing to the Lord. Christians must live in this world-but must not be of this world.
Here are some suggestions to think about when considering an activity or choosing a church:
1.Ask yourself if Jesus returned would he be pleased with this activity?
2.Is this activity glorifying the Lord?
3.What would Jesus do in this situation?
4.Are the words I am speaking glorifying God or hurting someone? Gossip hurts many innocent individuals and does not glorify God.
Things To Consider When Choosing A Church
1.Are they teaching and preaching the word of God according to the Bible.
2.Are you going to the church to worship God or because of prestige, music, social reasons or because the church helps you financially or provides you with a paid position?
3.Don’t focus on the degree the Pastor holds because if they were not called by God to preach-then they are just a person with a ministry degree. Pastor’s need to have compassion for the lost and hurting.
So, today consider what Jesus would do? Would Jesus be happy with the things in your home? Would he be pleased with your life if it ended at this moment? Christians can change the world – but the change must come from their heart first. Things accomplished here on earth will be forgotten - eternity is what counts. Why not make a decision to: “Do What Jesus Would Do?” You will be amazed how much you will grow in the Lord and will have a closer relationship with the Lord.

When Dressing a Toddler, Lighten Up, Mom

Dear Mom,

I know you mean well, but I respectfully disagree with your choice in clothing.

I really don’t want to wear anything but my Nemo the fish sandals. All right, your suggestion that I wear a diaper turned out to be a good one, but really. Don’t I just look stylish as I am? I mean, look at the Crayola Marker tattoos. Do I really have to wash them off or cover them up with unnecessary clothes like a shirt and a pair of pants?

Baptism-A Child Will Lead !

Baptism
I was a day care provider and there was one child in my care – that God used to continue my journey with him. Jason was only four years old – but he knew how to pray. Jason started praying for me and asked his dad to pray for me also.
I can still remember the phone ringing and the little voice of Jason saying, “Kim will you come to church with me?” Of course I agreed to go. Jason asked me to church every Wednesday and Sunday.
One day Jason asked me, “Have you been baptized?” I explained to him I was baptized as a baby. Jason told his dad and his dad made arrangements to study with me. For the next four weeks Greg (Jason’s dad) rode his motorcycle over to my parent’s house to have a Bible Study with me. After reading several scriptures on baptism – I told Greg I wanted to be baptized. Mathew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV) I was to be baptized in a small pond in a town called: “Claremont, IL”. Greg called a few church members to be witnesses. As I went down into the water – I can still remember the beautiful singing of the people as they sang: “I will follow Jesus – No turning back”.
As I came up out of the water – I knew my sins had been buried – to be held against me no more. I was a complete new creature in Christ. I don’t know how many people were saved because of Jason’s prayers and willingness to share Jesus with others. We as adults need to humble ourselves and become like a child – Pray for everyone and use every opportunity to share the message of the gospel.
