Easter
February 27, 2006
Easter is the celebration of Jesus being raised from the dead. As with Christmas and Santa Claus - there will great concern about the Easter Bunny.
I grew up with the Easter Bunny and it didn’t hurt me - I am an ordained pastor today. I spent many Easter mornings hunting for eggs and candy. I enjoyed family time of coloring eggs. I’m not sure I ever believed in the Easter Bunny. I just didn’t see how a Bunny could have candy and colored eggs. The most important thing was I knew the true meaning of Easter - which is that Jesus died on the cross and rose again.
I will cherish the memories of family time spent coloring eggs and the joy of finding eggs and candy Easter morning. Times were different then - children didn’t get candy everyday (They received candy on special occasions). So, it was always a special treat.
Easter was also a special time because I would get a new hat, dress, socks and shoes for Easter Sunday church services. I didn’t get a new outfit except for special occasions. I remember church services were always packed. People that didn’t usually attend services came on Easter Sunday.
The most important point of Easter is to teach your children the true meaning of Easter. If you choose to be the Easter Bunny - then make it a fun family time. Make some wonderful memories that you and your children may reflect on in later years. If at some point your child asks about the Easter Bunny and if he is real - then be truthful with them.
