A New Year – A New Beginning

The New Year will soon be approaching and

people will be making resolutions for the New

Year. Most resolutions will not be kept because

they are not realistic goals to be kept. A good

example of this is my childhood goals for the New

Year-such as never missing Sunday school that

year. This was a wonderful goal-but it wasn’t

realistic. The goal was never accomplished

because something would happen and I wouldn’t

be able to go. For example: my ride wouldn’t

show up or I was sick.

Proverbs 27:1 “Don’t brag about tomorrow,

since you don’t know what the day will

bring.” (New Living Translation) This scripture

reminds us that no-one can make plans for

tomorrow. The Lord has the ultimate plan-so we

must trust and obey.

So, what should a person do for New Years?

Here are a few tips or ideas: 1.) Make sure your

heart is right with the Lord. 2.) Put the Lord and

his plan for your life as the most important

priority. 3.) Deny yourself and serve others. 4.)

Stay faithful to the Lord’s work and to a local

church. Hebrews 10:25 “And let us not neglect

our meeting together, as some people do, but

encourage and warn each other, especially now

that the day of his coming back again is drawing

near.” (New Living Translation) This new year

should be devoted to serving the Lord and

others.
