You’ve made the decision to build your own outdoor fireplace. There are various things to consider when choosing an outdoor fireplace plan or blueprint. First, consider your budget and materials. Your budget will guide you in choosing materials for your fireplace. There are many choices such as concrete, brick, stone such as granite or limestone and even marble, cast iron, wood, metals such as copper and steel, and even lesser known materials.

Next when you choose your materials and your blueprint you want to pick out an area for the fireplace. It’s good advice to hire an architect that specializes in building outdoor fireplace kit to help. You can many plans and blueprints online on the internet, many home building supply stores, and even an architect that specializes in building fireplaces.

Next you need to decide when looking at plans, what your needs are. If you want a indoor outdoor fireplace that also functions as a grill then you may want to find a plan that not only accomodates grilling but has a fuel source that will make cooking food safe. Many fireplace plans outline how to install gas piping and valves while others are strictly wood and charcoal. If you choose to do it yourself, make sure you follow the plans or blueprints to completion!

Having an fireplaces outside is an enjoyable activity and many safety hazards can occur if short cuts are taken. It’s also an investment and should be erected correctly. Once you have your fireplace erected you will notice that you will be the envy of your neighborhood! Outdoor Fireplace Plans are a great way to get the fireplace and experience you want.

So keep in mind the basics: the tools for the job, the plans, the materials, and if at all possible an architect that specializes in outdoor fireplaces. Be careful when choosing a plan, don’t just pick one because of how it looks without doing the proper research! Make sure the plan is complete and the measurements and blueprint instructions are correct.

Some plans especially those found online can be incomplete or incorrect. This can lead to spending more money on fixing mistakes or a fireplace that does not operate correctly or one that is more of a hazard than a leisure activity. Building your own fireplace is hard work but it should be a rewarding experience . The end result should be a fireplace that adorns your back yard or patio area or deck .

The quest for younger looking skin has become increasingly popular during recent years. Collectively, we spend billions of dollars each year on different ways to keep our skin looking young and beautiful: from non-invasive anti aging creams to more invasive procedures such as Botox injections and plastic surgery.

Our skin is in constant contact with our external environment and forms a barrier that protects us from microorganisms, heat, cold and UV radiation. Skin needs moisture, collagen and elastin to stay flexible and smooth. As we age, the moisture, collagen and elastin content of our skin decreases. In particular our facial skin and hands, which are exposed to the elements the most, will show more signs of aging: fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, sun damage and other blemishes.

For many people, invasive surgical procedures are not an option for budgetary and medical reasons. And if you decide you would like to have younger looking skin, how do you decide what anti-wrinkle cream you should choose?

Anti-aging creams are aimed at moisturizing the skin, increase the levels of elastin and collagen and to repair any damage that resulted from overexposure to the sun. The overall end result should always be skin that has more moisture and shows less wrinkles and fine lines.

As a customer, you have many different anti wrinkle creams to choose from: creams that are aimed to fight wrinkles on the entire face or more specialized creams that target specific areas, such as an eye cream that reduces wrinkles and crow feet around the eyes and simultaneously treats dark circles under the eyes.

No matter what anti aging cream you choose, there are a number of popular anti aging ingredients such as special peptides, antioxidants and herbal extracts that can be found in many high-quality anti aging creams:

Collagen: Collagen is an important skin structural protein that gives the skin it’s smooth flexible appearance. As we grow older, the amount of collagen in the skin decreases, which results in wrinkles and fine lines. Many anti aging creams contain hydrolyzed collagen, which is an enzymatic break-down product of collagen-derived protein and is rich in the amino acid hydroxyproline

Hyaluronic acid: Hyaluronic acid is a large polymer consisting of sugars, abundant in connective, epithelial and neuronal tissue. It is one of the major components of the extra-cellular matrix, where it promotes cell proliferation and migration. Hyaluronic acid promotes moisture absorption and retention

Coenzyme Q: Coenzyme Q (CoQ10, ubiquinone) is an oil-soluble benzoquinone that is structurally similar to vitamin E and vitamin K and is mainly found in the mitochondria (where it is a part of the energy generating electron-transport chain). Since Coenzyme Q is a powerful antioxidant (it can transport electrons), it has gained popularity as an ingredient in anti wrinkle creams

Antioxidants: Many anti-aging creams contain antioxidants such as Pomegranate and Acai Berry extract to protect the skin from free radical damage

Lacto-ceramide: Ceramides limit skin irritations and are important for the skin’s barrier function. Ceramides found in anti aging creams (lacto-ceramide) are mostly synthetic and have powerful moisturizing and regenerating properties

Vitamin A: In anti-aging skin care, vitamin A derivatives are often used to promote skin turnover and to stimulate collagen production, leading to a more youthful appearance

Everyone can have younger looking skin. Eat healthy, reduce the impact of the environment on your skin and use high quality anti aging products such as creams and lotions to further enhance your skin. Learn about each active ingredient and determine if the ingredients can produce the rejuvenating effect you desire.

They know the public schools have problems, but they wonder if they can do any better. Maybe, they say, we should try a little harder to afford private school. With something as important as their child’s education at stake, they’re understandably cautious.

But there are numerous, quality studies that show that homeschooling on average produces superior students. Part of that effect might be explained away by noting that parents have an effect on education no matter what route they take. A parent genuinely interested in the education of his or her child helps motivate the student, producing better results.

But there are enough cases, in a great enough variety to account for even that variable. And the bottom line remains: homeschooling is best.

According to one study sponsored by the U.S. Dept of Education, homeschool student test scores were ‘exceptionally high’. The median scores for every grade were much higher than those of public and even Catholic or private school students. The average homeschooled student in grades one through four were a grade level above their peers. By the time they reached the equivalent of 8th grade, they were four years ahead of those who attended public school.

Part of those results are the consequence of the public schools doing a very poor job, not just that homeschooling does better. But homeschooled students typically surpassed even private schools.

And costs were lower, too. Government schools spent on average $6,500 per student per year, private schools only $3,500. Homeschoolers spent just shy of $550 per student per year. Naturally, that last number doesn’t factor in the hours a parent spends for free that a teacher would be paid for.

The public school system evolved in the second half of the 19th century as state after state made attendance compulsory. If they had a superior value to offer, one wonders why they had to force parents to put their child in a public school.

One could argue that it was the ignorance of rural parents who didn’t see the value of education. Yet, illiteracy rates in 1840 Massachusetts were a low 2% of adults. By 1995, the figure was 19%, despite enormous advances in the technology of delivering materials. Libraries in 1840 were very rare, now they are everywhere. Books are inexpensive and easy to trade.

Over a million children are homeschooled in America every year. Thousands have attended colleges and universities, in many cases the most prestigious and difficult at which to be accepted. In homeschooling there is an absence of the peer pressure that mocks those who display an eagerness to learn. Instead, there is an interested parent or tutor who encourages the best within the student.

The results are in. Homeschooling works, superlatively.

Solar energy isn’t anything new, but new advancements in technology have been placing solar energy more into the mainstream, and it may one day be one of the more primary power sources.

Advantages of Solar Energy

Since solar energy comes directly from the sun, it is not only renewable, but also accessible in any part of the world. As long as the proper equipment is utilized, unlimited amounts of solar power can be collected and put to good use.

Solar power is also one of the cleanest forms of energy, since it creates no pollution, and produces no greenhouse gases or waste products.

For residential uses, solar power minimizes any negative impacts on the surrounding environment, making it a safer alternative to wind or hydro power.

Not only is solar energy non-pollutant, in terms of gases, but it also causes zero noise pollution – since there are no moving parts in any of the devices which are used to capture the sunlight.

Because no moving parts are used, maintenance costs are low as well – only occasional cleaning and periodic battery replacements are needed. Most manufacturers of solar panels provide twenty-year warranties for their equipment, guaranteeing long-life operation.

Solar panels placed on rooftops also double as a heat absorbers, slightly cooling the top area of the house which is directly below the roof.

Disadvantages of Solar Energy

The most obvious drawback of solar energy is its sole dependence on the sun. Once the weather becomes cloudy, or nighttime strikes, energy collection comes to a halt. However, recent advancements of technology now allow the generated power to be stored in special batteries which provide roughly enough electricity to last a night. This is why solar-powered devices, including flashlights, are gaining in popularity and are proving to be efficient energy savers.

Solar panels can also be expensive, because of the materials that are used to create them. And even when these materials are taken out of the equation, the entire process, considering the other devices involved, can be a bit costly. This includes portable devices that utilize solar energy. But most of the cost involved is in the initial purchase and installation of a solar power system – not running costs.

Fortunately, there are some people who sell damaged solar cells, which are much cheaper. These damaged solar cells can be used to build fully functional solar panels, using the application of simple do-it-yourself techniques.

Although in every part of the world, there is at least some point in time when the sun shines, it is also true that direct sunlight is needed in order to make the most of the sun’s energy – and to generate the highest amounts of power. This significantly restricts the placement of solar panels. And some areas in the world may receive little benefit, due to lesser sunlight.

What’s the Bottom Line?

More research and development continues to be invested into this growing technology, and that’s a good sign for the future of our households – as solar power may, one day in the future, be used even more frequently than other energy sources. Of course, solar energy isn’t flawless as an energy solution, but it makes a great complimentary addition to other energy forms.

That is, they do not review some of the fundamentals that will make signing easier and more rewarding for both parent and child. In this article, we cover two of the elements to help ensure you have sucess with teaching baby sign language. We cover the issues of initial timing and content. That is, we discuss when you should start signing with your child, and, in this context, what words you should first teach your child to sign.

The Timing Question- When to Start

A threshold question that parents have when they decide to teach their baby sign language is at what age to begin the teaching process. As with most questions like this, there is no hard and fast rule on an exact age to begin signing. Every child is different, developing at his or her own pace. Most experts agree, however, that children cannot differentiate between signs in any meaningful way prior to 6 months of age. More likely, a child will begin distinguishing signs at around 10 months of age.

Generally, we recommend that people begin to introduce the first signs when the child is 6 to 9 months old. Your child will begin making basic signs when he is around 10 months of age. Starting around 12 months of age, you can start introducing some more absract, secondary signs. As your child gets older, and begins speaking his first words, you should start combining signs for “baby sentences”. But again, there is no definite time frame for which your baby will develop signs.

Always pay attention to your child’s body language and facial expressions for cues as to when he is ready to start the learning process. Use your intuition in this regard. Teaching sign langauge should be a natural process between you and your baby. When a child starts sitting up and showing interest in what is going on around her, they are likely ready to begin learning signs. In particular, if your child is observing what you’re doing with your hands, he may very well be receptive to your instruction. These nonverbal cues will let you know that baby is now ready to be taught.

Many children don’t make their first sign until 10 months of age or later, and some not before 12 months. Please do not worry if your child does not immediately sign back to you. It may seem like it is taking him forever. But rests assured. Althouh the first few signs may come very slowly, one day your child will begin learning signs at a rapid pace. You will probably have a hard time keeping up! And then the pace may slow again. Signing with your child will be filled with fast and slow periods and stops and starts. But if you keep at it, you will succeed in teaching your child to sign.

The Word Question- What to Sign When

After you have decided it is time to start signing with your child, you must choose which words to start with. It is critical that you choose only a few basic words to begin teaching your baby. Otherwise, you could overwhelm your baby, and yourself, with a large number of signs. We recommend that you only work on three to four new signs at any given time. Once your child learns a sign you are working on, add another sign to teach him.

Children will recognize a sign before they begin using it as their own. The recognition of words is known as “receptive language”, while being able to form words (including signs) is called “expressive language”. Pay attention to your baby’s facial expressions when you are teaching her a sign. Your child’s expression may tell you when he begins to recognize the sign. For example, his eyes may light up with a smile when you sign the word “milk”. After he recognizes a sign, your child will likely begin “expressing” that sign soon thereafter.

Finally, remember to always introduce and reinforce new signs at the appropriate moment in time. Again, working on just a few signs, introduce them before, during, and/or after an activity that goes with the sign. A great time to teach “milk”, for example, is when you are giving your chld milk and after they are finished drinking their milk. Conversely, try not to teach a sign out of context. If your child is playing with a toy truck, do not try teach the sign for milk.

Listeners reap the rewards of having fun while multitasking or simply taking the time to listen to an audio program while doing absolutely nothing. Obviously, it is not necessary to use a podcast for a specific task, but many podcasts are great for completing activities. Listeners have a purpose when using this type of downloaded audio. This does not indicate a podcast must be used for a business or work-related purpose. Podcasts are great for a variety of leisure activities, including:

Cooking: Podcasts are great for creating a recipe and differ from using a traditional recipe card. Guided instructions will assist you in creating everything from chocolate chip cookies to five-star cuisine.

Learn a Foreign Language: Similar to the cassette tapes played two decades ago in high school foreign language classes, this type of podcast allows listeners to pick up on any language. This option is great for anyone from an executive moving abroad to an individual attempting to increase linguistic competence.

Home Repair: If you are unsure of how to fix the leaky bathroom faucet or the best way to install a dishwasher, find a podcast that takes you through a step-by-step guide, giving advice while you complete the project. This is great for the motivated homeowner who is too independent or frugal to seek outside help.

Family Activities: This particular type of podcast caters to small children with a variety of hands-on activities and guided steps, on everything from how to make a sock puppet to learning how to knit. This type of podcast is great on a rainy day.

And there’s more….

Exercise: If you seek variety in your workout routine, look for a podcast that serves as an exercise buddy. Workout podcasts include all different varieties of movement like yoga and Pilates, as well as podcasts for walking. This is a beneficial means of trying out a new form of exercise or simply trying out a type of workout before paying to attend a class.

Games: Podcast listeners who wish to test their knowledge will love the ability to access podcasts of puzzles, trivia, and riddles. Exercise your brain or challenge someone to a trivia contest.

Consider any podcast that allows you to become an active listener. Where else can you learn to perfect the lotus pose or plan your next garden? Becoming productive with the use of podcasts can open doors to fun and exciting activities!

It might make your daughter feel uncomfortable sometimes talking to dad or mom about it. Your daughter might be embarrassed to talk to you about a certain guy that she might like. Here are five important issues to talk to your daughter about dating.

1. Talk to her about her manners. Let her know what manners are appropriate during a date. Let her know that she needs to say please and thank you to the guy. Another thing is to let her know how he should be treating her such as opening doors for her and helping her with her chair.

2. Caution her about how some males only want to have sex. Tell her about how some men will say anything to get sex. Let her know that some males might try to pressure her into having sex before she is ready. Tell her that she shouldn’t have sex with someone before marriage. Tell her about the risks of pregnancy by having unprotected sex and other risks such as diseases. Warn her about the great dangers of sexually transmitted diseases.

3. Explain to her the signs of a bad boyfriend or date. Let her know that she can talk to you about anything. Let her know that she needs to be able to recognize the signs of someone that isn’t good for her. Tell her that she has every right to end a date or relationship at any time.

4. Caution her that she should always keep some extra money in her purse just in case she ever needs it. Let her know that she can always call you or someone else parents to get her out of trouble if her date doesn’t treat her right. Make sure that your daughter has a cell phone for emergencies.

5. Explain to your daughter that she shouldn’t date people that use drugs or sell drugs. Explain to her that reasons illegal drugs are bad and the risks associated with it. Make sure to tell her that HIV/AIDS can be passed through needles when people do illegal drugs.

It might be uncomfortable at first talking to your daughter about these things. The more you talk about it then the more comfortable your daughter will feel talking to you. It is a good idea to let your daughter know that she can talk to you about anything regarding dating and males. Make sure that your daughter has a curfew time to be home by a certain time when she is out on dates. Make sure that she does wear appropriate clothes on a date.

Talk to her about her dating habits to let her know that you would like to know where she is going to on a date and make sure that she lets you know the name of the guy that she is going out with. It might be extreme, but perhaps doing a criminal background check is a good idea just to be safe. Make sure you get the males phone number and a description of the vehicle that he is driving. When she goes out dating, make sure you write down the license plate number she rides with.

This sobering fact is always close to mind in the best woodworkers and other power tool using trades people, and it’s part of what keeps them safe. Furthermore, the safest people in the power tool using community know and follow the seven rules of power tool safety outlined for you below. Go to Industrial tools for more information.

This article is not intended to replace the importance of reading the safety instructions in the manual that comes with every power tool… Be careful and be safe.

1) You Are The Most Dangerous Power Tool
Power tool users debate at great length about which is actually the most dangerous power tool. There’s widespread agreement however that the number one most dangerous power tool is the operator himself, as there are very few cases of any power tools leaping out to attack randomly. Remember that every time you turn on a power tool it’s you who are responsible for having the same number of fingers when you turn it off. This may seem like an obvious statement but it’s the arrogant, cocky and negligent power tool users who end up forgetting this cardinal truth.

2) All Tools are Equally Dangerous, but Some are More Frequently Harmful
Every tool in your tool box can be dangerous to you if you forget the cardinal rule, but some are definitely more frequent causes of trips to the emergency room. You should exercise caution especially when you pick up that box cutter of yours to break down some boxes. Also, the table saw is widely considered one of the most frequent manglers of fingers, as is the radial arm saw, the sharper and the chain saw. Visit tools for further information.

3) Keep Your Tools Sharp, True, Clean and Running Smooth
Tool maintenance is another key factor in power tool safety. You should study the manual that comes with all of your power tools to learn how and how often you should be sharpening, aligning and cleaning your tool. And always be on the look out for changes in its operating function – listen for funny noises or any jiggles that may develop. These are signs that you need to spend some time getting your manual out and make some adjustments. A calendar in your shop that you can mark with tool maintenance times is a good idea too.

4) Keep Your Work Space Tidy, Well Lit and Distraction Free
Whether you’re working in your basement shop or a job site it’s vital that you keep it clean, well lit and free from distractions. The cleanliness and tidiness means that you won’t be tripping over any bits and pieces that you’ve left around. Get into the habit of cleaning up after yourself as you work and you’ll be well along your way to preventing any major problems with work-site accidents. Strong lighting too is vital to any power tool operation as the lighting is what keeps your fingers away from the blade and shows you exactly where blades are at all times. Get as many watts as possible on your next job and you’ll keep yourself out of the emergency room. Finally, make sure that there’s no music on that could distract you, or cell phones or anything else that pulls your attention away from where it needs to be. Refer to tools for more information.

5) Purchase or Make the Appropriate Safety Accessories
Woodworkers have their push sticks, feather boards and push blocks to make sure that they keep their cuts as true as possible while keeping their fingers away from the blade. Many power tools have common safety accessories and it’s up to you to make sure that you’ve learned as much as you can about each one and that you use it effectively to protect yourself from catastrophic injury.

6) Keep a First Aid Kit Handy
In addition to the normal stuff like bandages and peroxide you’re going to want to keep a couple of extra items handy that have a grizzly importance. Keep a plastic garbage bag handy for transporting any severed limbs with you to the hospital. Further, a hand mirror is vital for checking on your face in the case of a facial injury. Have these items available and hope that you never have to use them.

7) Always Trust Your Instincts
Most power tool operators report a little twinge of conscience right before they get hurt on a power tool. A little voice or feeling that says “hm… this isn’t safe.” If you get that feeling then stop what ever you’re doing right away. Further, it’s often when people try old jobs in new ways – that they just make up on the spot without thinking through – that they get hurt too. So pay attention to that little voice inside of you and you’ll be much more likely to stay safe!

Remember – it’s up to you to keep yourself safe when using power tools. Always read the manuals and remember the seven rules of power tool safety!
